Arraiolos is a village in Alentejo, with charming corners, a lofty castle and known worldwide for its carpets in Arraiolos stitch.
The goal of this project was to provide digital content about Arraiolos and its history to all its visitors, through the placement of an interactive totem of 2m high, in one of the corners of the mais square, the heart of the village. Through this totem, everyone would have access to exclusive content about the town and its history over the centuries.
In this sense, we transformed the totem into a direct window to the past and recreated in 3D the town square of the 14th, 16th and 20th centuries, from the perspective where the visitor is ("at the window"). By interacting with the screen, all visitors will be able to watch an animation with 3D characters that tell the story of an ordinary day in the centre of Arraiolos, throughout the 3 centuries identified.
Also at this window, an interactive map shows the points of interest of Arraiolos. By selecting, for example, the Castle location, nowadays already totally in ruins, they will be able to interact with a 3D recreation, rebuilt based on studies provided by the Arraiolos Chamber.
In the end, through augmented reality, the visitors have the possibility to take a picture in Arraiolos square with one of the 3D characters of their choice, and send it to their email, as a souvenir.
